Summer 2013 Water Safety Post

According to the CDC, about 10 people drown in the United States everyday. This staggering number leaves parents wondering what they can do to avoid the unthinkable from happening. Use these water safety tips this summer to keep your children safe:

Supervise

Always have a designated adult (be it a parent or lifeguard), to keep a close watch on your children while they are in or near an area of water.

Avoid Distractions

Drowning happens quickly. The smallest distraction can cut your line of defense in an aquatic environment. This is why it is a smart idea to hire a private lifeguard to keep a close watch of your children. Lifeguards are professional rescuers who are trained to avoid these distractions.

Learn CPR

Knowing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), could save someones life. Having someone who knows CPR, such as a lifeguard, is very important in an aquatic environment.

Avoid Alcohol

Drinking alcohol and swimming do not mix for obvious reasons. Do not have someone who has been drinking supervise your children.

Teach Your Children how to Swim

Knowing how to swim greatly reduces the chances of drowning. Even if your children and guests know how to swim, you or a lifeguard should still keep a close eye on them.
